Title: Classification of the Top End and Arid Zone for Northern Territory water resources
Citation Date:2021-06-04
Date Type:creation
Custodian:Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security
Description
This polygon spatial dataset defines the Top End region and Arid Zone regions as described by the Northern Territory Water Allocation Planning Framework. The regions are also referred to as NT Water Resource Climate Zones.
The delineation uses the boundary between surface water catchments draining northwards into the Timor Sea or the Gulf of Carpentaria (Top End) and those flowing inland (Arid Zone). These regions provide guidance on whether a water resource will have the characteristics of a Top End or Arid Zone resource for water allocations, planning, management and regulation.
The zones can be viewed in NR Maps - nrmaps.nt.gov.au/nrmaps.html
Under the Water heading, then Water Resources and layer named Climate zones.

Data Quality
Lineage:The spatial layer was derived from Bureau of Metrology Geofabric (version 3.2), which was used to define the Arid Zone and the Top End regions.
Positional Accuracy:The Bureau of Meteorology Geofabric (Version 3.2) SH_Catchments and HR_Catchments data products were used to derive the Arid Zone and Top End boundary. The data have a nominal scale of 1:100,000 to 1:250,000
Attribute Accuracy:
Logical Consistency:GIS editing tools were used to rectify all overshoots and undershoots in line work. Polygon topology rules applied are; must not overlap, must not have gaps and each polygon has only one label.
Completeness:Complete
