Title: Vegetation Community Mapping of the Wadeye Area (10k), 2021
Citation Date:2021-05-25
Date Type:creation
Custodian:Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security
Description
This polygon spatial dataset describes vegetation communities in the biodiversity study area of the project: Mapping the Future - Wadeye.
The aim of the assessment was to identify and delineate sensitive and significant vegetation communities within the study area.
The extent of area mapped (within the biodiversity study area) covers approximately 6047 ha. The area was mapped at a scale of 1:10,000.
The information was compiled as part of: Mapping the Future - Wadeye
This project has identified land capability, water availability and biodiversity values to support land planning and inform development potential over the Nangu study area.
Reports and maps can be viewed from the Mapping the Future webpage: depws.nt.gov.au/DevelopmentOpportunities

Data Quality
Lineage:Vegetation community boundaries were delineated using ArcGIS from interpretation of high resolution aerial photography and satellite imagery (Sentinel-2); Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission (SRTM) derived elevation data and terrain indices; land resource mapping (Burgess et al. 2017); geological mapping; and field survey information.
The spatial dataset is stored within an ESRI file geodatabase using Geographics in datum GDA94.
The polygons are stored as a feature class in the GDB data compilation - Risk to Biodiversity of the Wadeye Area, 2021.
Positional Accuracy:The mapping scale is 1:10,000
Attribute Accuracy:Field data (site information) described and classified according to national standards at the time of capture.
Attribute values are assigned to each polygon and described in the Data Dictionary below. The attribute naming format uses 10 characters with no spaces to be suitable for an ESRI shape-file format. An alias attribute name is applied to an ESRI file geo-database format.
Logical Consistency:GIS editing tools were used to rectify all overshoots and undershoots in the polygon line work. Polygon topology rules applied are; must not overlap, must not have gaps and each polygon has only one label.
Completeness:Complete

Attribute Attribute Description Possible Code Code Description 01. PROJECT Project name 02. SOURCE Data source 03. VCOMM Vegetation Community
Vegetation mapunit code for polygon is displayed using a concatenation of the 2 dominant communities. For example 2b/2a.04. DOM_VCOMM Dominant Vegetation Community
For example: Where the vegetation community is displayed as 2b/2a, the dominant vegetation community is 2b.05. VC_PERCENT Alias: Veg Comm %
Proportion of vegetation map units contained within polygon. For example 60/4006. VCOMM_DESC Vegetation community description 07. VEG_GROUP Vegetation group 08. VEG_SUBGRP Major vegetation sub-group
Generalised vegetation descriptions derived from NVIS vegetation descriptions in the NVIS data hierarchy.09. BROADFORM Broad Floristic Formation (NVIS Level 3)
Dominant genus (or genera) plus growth form, cover and height for the structurally dominant stratum.10. SIG_VEG Sensitive/Significant vegetation
Vegetation considered sensitive or significant within the NT Planning Scheme and NT Land Clearing Guidelines.11. GDE GDE present
Is groundwater dependent ecosystem present with the vegetation map unit? Yes/No.
Note: Groundwater Dependent Ecosystems require access to groundwater to meet all or some of their water requirements on a permanent or intermittent basis (Richardson et al. 2011). Development can impact sensitive habitats beyond the immediate development footprint.12. GDE_NAT GDE nature
The nature/extent of the communities groundwater dependence. Polygons are classified as either Permanent or Seasonal.13. GDE_TYPE GDE type
Groundwater dependent ecosystem type, according to the criteria outlined in the Australian groundwater-dependent ecosystems toolbox (Richardson et al. 2011).
Groundwater Dependent Ecosystems - classified as the following;
- Type 2 (surface expression)
- Type 3 (subsurface expression)14. GDE_CONF GDE Confidence
classified as either High or Moderate.15. WETLAND Wetland
Vegetation community considered a wetland or waterway as defined under the NT Land Clearing Guidelines.
Polygon classified as either Yes, No or Unsure.16. WET_CLASS Wetland classification
Classification of wetland system based on the likely hydrologic, geomorphologic, chemical and/or biological attributes of the wetland. The classification infers similar ecological processes operating within similar systems.
Polygons classified as either; Estuarine, Palustrine, Riverine or NA.17. LF_PATT Landform Pattern
Higher-order landform features, usually an assemblage of landform elements resulting from formative geomorphological processes. Characteristic dimensions of landform patterns are typically c. 600m.18. LF_ELEM Landform Element
Lower-order landform features defined by attributes such as slope and position in a toposequence (landscape position); at a scale below the landform pattern. Characteristic dimension of landform elements are typically c. 40m.19. MAP_NO Map group order used for map display purposes. 20. MAP_GROUP Map group used for map display purposes. 21. AREA_HA Polygons have been calculated for area in hectares.
