Description

Abstract:

This dataset provides information on the key limestone aquifers and aquifer types overlaying the Beetaloo Sub-Basin.

The elevation of the base of the Mesozoic Carpentaria Basin (the top of the key aquifers), the elevation of the base of the Cambrian sedimentary basins (the Daly, Wiso and Georgina basins) and the elevation base of the middle Velkerri Formation (the most prospective unit for shale gas) were captured in this mapping exercise.

The Cambrian sediments and volcanics overlaying the Beetaloo Sub-Basin occur to interpreted depths varying from 61 metres to 686 metres. The interpreted base of the Velkerri Formation within the Beetaloo Sub-Basin varies from 394 metres to 3637 metres below ground level.

Data Quality

Lineage:The geological boundaries for the Mesozoic Carpentaria Basin, Cambrian sedimentary basins and Velkerri Formation were captured from geology data interpretation.

The beeta_mcb_700, beeta_cl_700 and beetavf_700 datasets were created from MicroStation Design file, Beetaloo-Sub-Basin_Groundwater-Map_m53.dgn

All datasets were created using the ArcGIS suite of software and FME Universal Translator.

The core attributes information was derived from the Beetaloo-Sub-Basin_Groundwater-Map_m53.dgn hardcopy map. File name Kirkimbie-Stn_Water-Resource.pdf. Refer to metadata for data dictionary for field's description.

Positional Accuracy:Positional accuracy of 700 metres from bore locations.

Attribute Accuracy:Attributes assigned according to the dominant feature. For example, several similar geological units have been grouped to describe a particular geology.

Logical Consistency:GIS editing tools were used to rectify all overshoots and undershoots in line work. Topology rules applied to unsure that polygon must not overlap, must not have gaps and has only one label.

Completeness:Complete
